Our Story

Read Phillips riding a horse giving a peace sign

Meet Read Phillips

"I got my start flipping burgers at the Yum Yum Drive-In in Merced, CA. In college, I served beers and more burgers at the Hollins Inn. But everything clicked in La Paz, Bolivia, when a hotelier I worked for encouraged me to attend the Culinary Institute of America. So I did... and it was the best move I ever made.

To be successful in hospitality, you must understand the back of the house. I never intended to cook, but the kitchen is what makes gatherings wonderful and flavorful.

Beets exists to bring people together. To joyfully serve delicious food. To be of service to our guests so they can enjoy special moments. That’s what makes me happy."
